Best of the Year

In 2004, the local "Myrtle Beach Herald", a weekly newspaper published by Mr. Greg Everett, started its Best of the Year contest. Both print and online ballots have been used and through the years the contest has changed very little. Only one ballot (print or online) is allowed per person and submissions have been limited to only subscribers in some years, while in other years they have been accepted from all readers of the Herald. Each year one (1) Non-Profit organization or Chapter of a Non-Profit organization - domiciled or located in Horry County, SC - which receives the most votes from all qualified voters receives a cash prize. The first two years of the contest that prize was $10,000.00 while for the last three years the prize has been $15,000.00. There is only one winner per category, no finalists; and each winner is published in a special section of the "Myrtle Beach Herald" concurrent with the launch of their category exclusive website.

From the beginning the Myrtle Beach Woman's Club saw the opportunity being offered in this competition and committed itself to full participation. We have lobbied relentlessly within the community to get votes for Non-Profit of the Year. The club is small but extremely active in the Myrtle Beach area and, so, is well known to a wide variety of people which also accounts for votes in our behalf. We take special effort in all that we do to build relationships in the community and to cultivate partners. We feel this is key to successful fund raising. And the "Myrtle Beach Herald" Best of the Year Contest is a fund raiser for us! We see ourselves as stewards of all the money we have raised, including that which we have won in the Best of the Year contest, and we dispense it back into the community with great care.

The MBWC is the 5 time / All Time winner of Non-Profit of the Year which has translated into a total of $65,000.00 now. We are thrilled with this accomplishment and the wonderful relationship we have with the "Myrtle Beach Herald".
