The Myrtle Beach Woman's Club continues its mission of "Caring for our Community" and equipping women to promote educational, social and civic progress through its scholarship program. Each year the well rounded achievements of one Myrtle Beach High female senior planning to attend either Coastal Carolina University or Horry-Georgetown Technical College are rewarded with a $1,000.00 scholarship. This graduate is recommended by the guidance staff of the high school for her community service involvement, leadership qualities and good character.
Additionally, the club offers scholarship opportunities for continuing students at Coastal Carolina and Horry-Georgetown Tech which are promoted by both the club and the schools. Those who apply and qualify will meet with a selection committee and, if chosen, will be awarded a $4,000.00 scholarship to Coastal or a $2,000.00 scholarship to Tech.
The club also sponsors a Back2School program which helps to equip those less fortunate children with necessary supplies city students and teachers require. Each year the principals of Myrtle Beach Primary, Elementary, Middle and High School are petitioned for their prioritized list of needs and our Education Department works to respond to them. When the shopping and "packaging" are done, a presentation day and time is arranged at the schools which the entire membership splits up to accommodate. Our relationship with the Myrtle Beach schools is a solid one and we also enjoy underwriting various projects like field trips to Florida to swim with the Manatees and scholarship programs which broaden the educational experiences of selected students.
